Post-production and restoration

Post-production and restoration

MDPI’s first commitment is to preserve the media as they are. The preservation master is as close of a replica of the original material as technology allows. Once Memnon has digitized film reels, IU conducts additional editing and digital restoration on select titles to facilitate a better viewing experience. This involves combining multi-reel films and pre-production elements (negatives, soundtracks, etc.) into one complete video; carrying out color correction; removing scratches, splices, dirt, and flicker; and restoring audio.

Newly created content is then placed in IU’s Scholarly Data Archive as born-digital preservation packages to be used for screenings, exhibits, and special events.
